Vegas, Tuscaloosa, Lifetime WPT Results by Shannon Shorr, Wed. 10 Feb 2010
In the two weeks since I’ve last posted there hasn’t been too much going on. I spent the last weekend of January out in Las Vegas celebrating Justin Young’s 30th birthday and then taking part in a surprise party for Eric Baldwin for his 2009 Cardplayer Player of the Year victory. On the Friday night Adam Geyer and I showed up and informed basebaldy that we flew in last minute just to celebrate Justin’s birthday. Adam and I were 7th and 8th wheels as we joined Eric, Cody Slaubaugh, Justin and their respective girlfriend and wives Mary, Renee and Morgan for some partying at the M casino. We started off pregaming at Justin’s place and playing some pool before eating an amazing dinner at the steakhouse at M. Later, we had a helluva good time in our own (close to) private 1/2 NL game at M. The highlight of the night had to be when Renee checkraise bluffed Adam out of a big pot and showed him king high.
On Saturday we woke up hungover but quickly got back on it by joining everyone (including about 8 of basebaldy’s hometown buddies) and having his surprise party at Justin’s place. We even had some funny ass t-shirts printed up. We took a party bus down to the strip and enjoyed a meal at the new Hard Rock Cafe on the strip. Later, we headed over to a very underrated Vegas bar called Blondie’s in Planet Hollywood. It was there that we played a seemingly endless number of games of flip cup that resulted in everyone getting slaughtered. Finally, Adam and I joined his sister (who was in town with some friends) at Lavo at Palazzo for a few hours.
I spent this past weekend in Tuscaloosa just kinda hanging out. I watched the Super Bowl with my friends Billy and Wade at my house. We ordered some ribs from the famous Dreamland BBQ that did not disappoint.
After busting out of WPT Biloxi in January on day 1, I found myself annoyed with yet another early bustout. I decided to do a little research on my statistics in World Poker Tour events since the first one I played about 3.5 years ago. Some of my findings were interesting. I rarely share numbers anymore, but I get some emails with questions about the live tournament grind, so whatever. It should be noted that this is an extremely, extremely small sample size (despite it being over 42 months’ time and nearly $400,000 worth of investments) and should not be taken seriously at all. For example, many online tournament grinders play more tournaments on one Sunday than I’ve played WPT events over those 42 months.
